Maria Bubnova was born and raised in Moscow. She spent her early youth performing at the theatre studio, getting acquainted with the world of art since she was 3 years old. Not only was Maria an actor there, but she also took part in the studio musical ensemble, where she sang and played the xylophone. This early experience was the first step towards a life-long commitment to music.
Maria had her first harp lesson at the age of 6 and, since then, she has never stopped being devoted to music. She was raised (age 7-18) in the Classical tradition at Moscow Conservatory school by Tatiana Erdeli-Schepalina.
During her school studies she won dozens of international competitions in Russia (March 2019 – I prize of XV International competition of young musicians) and Europe (February 2018 – I prize by unanimous decision of the jury in IX French harp competition (Limoges, France)), took part in World Harp Congresses in 2017, 2022 and 2024, performed a wide harp repertoire solo and in chamber music ensemble.
Then Maria decided to continue her studies on an international level, so in spring 2022 she was admitted to the full bachelor programme «Bachelor of music performance – Classical and Contemporary music» (2022-2026) in the Norwegian Academy of Music with professor Isabelle Perrin. In February 2024 Maria won the XIII French harp competition in Limoges and later performed a solo concert in Nobel Peace Center in Oslo.
Maria has also been a composer for 9 years. She started with small pieces based on Russian folklore, wrote an opera based on a tale by Pushkin and now is facing more and more sophisticated global concepts in her works. Her latest composition is "Baida", which is available to watch on Youtube.
Maria has a harp teaching experience. Being 18 years old, she trained junior school students aged 7 in classical harp performance. She did not only practice harp technique with them and help with hand position, but also prepared them for international competitions and concerts.
